I came, I saw… I bartered!

Last weekend, I woke up in unfamiliar surroundings! I opened my eyes and didn't recognise the ceiling, got into a bit of a panic and then my brain started to function! It took me a few seconds to remember I was about 890 miles away from London... in Rome. A smile spread across my face as I yawned, stretched, leapt out of bed with all the grace and energy of a gazelle, flinging open the windows and letting in a tantalising assault on my senses.

Even though it was early in the morning, the air warmed my skin. Looking up into a perfectly blue sky, the shrill shrieking sound of swooping swallows rushed into the room. Nestled in the nook of an off-street and tucked away by the height of the surrounding buildings, the hotel room was sheltered from the hustle and bustle of nearby Termini Station and the apparently organised chaos of Rome's traffic.

On the street below a line of vespas were parked diagonally to the curb and a man lifted the shutters of a restaurant on the corner. Directly ahead was another hotel stained a rich, all-consuming yellow that swallowed up any of the dreariness I had taken with me from London and regurgitated a sense of optimism and excitement that infused me with the type of energy I usually experience when I eat too many pick'n'mix sweets!

And so and action-packed weekend of sight-seeing ensued. I gobbled up the Pantheon, the Colloseum, Vatican City and a number of Rome's less conspicuous sites. I made my way from shopping parades boasting well-known Italian designer names to sprawling flea markets selling antiques, jewellery, shoes, clothing and miscellaneous bits and bobs (but no fleas to my disappointment!)

I posed beside stunning fountains and piazzas, admired the amazing architecture, strolled through museums and ate pastries and cakes until my stomach hurt. And on the whole, I conquered the buses, trams and metro with one slight hiccup when I managed to do the typical tourist thing and get lost navigating across the city… with a map! However this didn’t really matter because it was all done in style whilst wearing YouLike IMake accessories!

Ultimately, I had a great time in a beautifully animated city, pulsating with life; how lucky I was to enjoy it!

And all the while, I kept my eye out for fresh ideas to inspire forthcoming YouLike IMake developments. On my travels I snapped up this lovely fabric (below), which at first I thought looked a bit too busy. However, I like a challenge and thought I could make something out of it, maybe a nice pair of stud earrings.

Feast your eyes on the new fabric and the newest YouLike IMake creation.
